There are two types of individuals: night owls and early birds. Neither is inherently better than the other. However, night owls are at a disadvantage in many ways. On the flip side, being an early bird has its perks, especially in a world where the schedule of most jobs and activities seems to accommodate morning people. You should also know that being a morning or a night person depends on your internal clock — also known as the circadian rhythm — which naturally determines when you feel the most asleep and the most awake. There is no need to fidget; you can adjust your internal clock to suit your preference. So, if you yearn to use your mornings more, here are some tactics you can implement to adapt your internal clock and help yourself adjust seamlessly to morning schedules.

Be Sure To Have A Healthy Sleep Lifestyle

Don’t jump right into adjusting your sleep pattern. First, establish healthy sleep practices like regular exercise – have a morning and evening exercise schedule, consume less than 400 milligrams of caffeine daily and avoid it at least six hours before bed or earlier, have pre-bed activities that help you relax, and make your bedroom space conducive for sleeping. When you imbibe these habits, your sleep pattern will naturally adjust.

Have A Bedtime Routine

A bedtime routine is formed simply by repeating activities —mostly calming activities, in the same order, night after night before going to sleep. With consistency, it becomes a behavioural cue that signals to your brain that it is time to fall asleep.

Create A Morning Routine

Having a bedtime routine without a morning routine to complement it is like a body without a soul. It won’t be long until you fall asleep after waking up. Fill your mornings with tasks that make you ecstatic and motivated to get out of bed.

Light Effect

Light has a strong alerting effect. Exposure to bright light in the morning is a step in the right direction of becoming a morning person. You can go outside to feel the morning sun directly on your face, sit by a window, or purchase a light therapy lamp. Whatever you do, be sure to expose yourself to light in the morning. It will help you on your journey of becoming a morning person.

Early Mealtime

Your appetite is intricately tied to your circadian rhythm. So, adjusting your eating schedule is adjusting your circadian rhythm. Eating breakfast during the early hours of the day helps your body adjust to an earlier routine. Rather than waiting until later before eating breakfast, try your best to see that you eat early, as it helps your internal organs become active and keep you up and running in the morning.
