Margot Robbie Embraces Barbiecore Aesthetics At The Golden Globes With A Nod To The 1970s

In a stunning display of fashion homage, Margot Robbie, the leading star of “Barbie,” recreated the iconic look of Mattel’s best-selling “Superstar Barbie” doll at the Golden Globe Awards. Robbie graced the event in a custom-designed hot-pink evening gown paired with a shimmering ruffle boa by Armani Privé, mirroring the 1977 “Superstar Barbie.”

Nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Robbie complemented her ensemble with exquisite jewelry. She adorned herself with over $3 million worth of pink and white diamonds by renowned jeweler Lorraine Schwartz and completed her look with elegant pink satin Manolo Blahnik pumps.

The original “Superstar Barbie,” described by Mattel as “ready to dance the night away,” donned one of her most dazzling attires from the era. Recently reissued, this vintage doll featured sparkling “diamond” jewelry and matching heels, perfectly capturing the disco era’s vibrancy.

Robbie, exuding a Barbie-like aura, shared her thoughts on the red carpet, saying, “I just woke up and I thought this maybe this would be appropriate.” She added, “I actually do feel (like Superstar Barbie) tonight.”

Her stylist Andrew Mukamal has consistently ensured Robbie’s red carpet appearances keep her in character, collaborating with prestigious labels like Prada, Vivienne Westwood, Bottega Veneta, Balmain, Versace, Valentino, and Schiaparelli. This strategy has been humorously termed as “method dressing.”

At previous events, Robbie paid tribute to various Barbie eras. She wore Schiaparelli couture at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, an homage to the “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie from 1960. In London, she chose a custom Vivienne Westwood ensemble inspired by the vintage “Enchanted Evening” Barbie, and for a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, she donned a Moschino outfit reminiscent of the “Sparkling Pink” Barbie.
