Wizkid Commits ₦100 Million For Children’s Welfare In Memory Of His Mother

Nigerian music icon Wizkid has made a heartwarming announcement, pledging to donate a substantial sum of ₦100 million to support children in need, a gesture made in loving memory of his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun. The star shared this generous commitment on his Instagram story, highlighting his intention to commence this charitable act in Surulere, Lagos.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, expressed his profound respect and love for his mother through this philanthropic initiative. “₦100M for the kids for Christmas! God bless us all, starts in Surulere tonight. All in Morayo’s name, the love of my life,” he wrote in his post.

The choice of Surulere as the starting point for this charity drive holds special significance for Wizkid, as it is the area where he spent his early years in Lagos. By giving back to the community that played a crucial role in his upbringing, Wizkid not only honors his mother’s memory but also symbolically completes a circle of giving and gratitude.

This act of kindness comes after the music superstar and his family laid his mother to rest on August 18, 2023, following her passing. The family commemorated her life with a grand celebration, reflecting on the impact she had on their lives.

Wizkid joins the ranks of other notable figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry who have extended their support to various causes this year. Record label executive Don Jazzy is another such philanthropist who has generously aided individuals in need. In April, he donated ₦500,000 to an anonymous student struggling with tuition fees. Later, in October, he distributed ₦8 million among two Nigerians in need of medical assistance.

The generosity displayed by these celebrities, particularly during festive seasons, underscores their commitment to giving back to society and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
