I wasn’t supposed to be at the spa that evening.

I had planned to book the day before, but I forgot. My week was already packed with meetings, deadlines, and presentations, and that day was the only free one I had. So I decided to take a chance and walk in.

When I got there, the first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. The place was dimly lit, smelling of lavender and eucalyptus. I walked to the front desk, smiling at the receptionist.

“Hi, I would like a body massage,” I said, trying to sound hopeful.

She gave me a small apologetic smile. “I’m so sorry, ma, we’ve closed for the day. Normally, we close by 8pm, but today we had to shut down early. Something about the staff meeting.”

I sighed. “Oh no, really? I only have today free.”

“Maybe you can come tomorrow?” she offered.

I was about to say okay and turn back when I heard the sound of the inner door open. I turned, and my heart skipped.

Standing there, holding a towel and looking surprised, was Seun.

For a second, I didn’t believe it. Seun. My ex from university. The one who left for another school and never came back. The one I had loved briefly but deeply.

He froze too, staring like he’d seen a ghost. Then that familiar grin spread across his face. “Cassy? Is this really you?”

I laughed, shaking my head. “Wow. I can’t believe this. You own this spa?”

He nodded, still smiling. “Yeah. It’s been running for about three years now.”

I blinked in surprise. “You’re kidding. All my friends come here. I didn’t even know it was yours.”

We quickly caught up on life, work, and the past. He looked older, calmer. The boyish energy I remembered had matured into something confident and grounded. But his eyes still had that spark I used to love.

As I reached for my bag to leave, he stopped me. “Wait. I can still give you your massage. It’s just me around now, and I owe you one from back then.”

I hesitated. “No, no, it’s fine. I can come tomorrow.”

He smiled softly. “Cassy, come on. You need to relax. Let me help.”

Something in his tone made me agree before I could think twice.

The room was dim, with only soft music playing. I lay down on the massage table, feeling suddenly shy. The air was thick with unsaid memories. I heard him pour oil into his palms, and when his hands touched my shoulders, I froze.

It wasn’t just the warmth of his hands; it was the familiarity. Every gentle movement reminded me of how close we used to be. I could almost hear the laughter we shared in his old apartment, the lazy afternoons, the way he used to hold me like I was fragile.

“Relax,” he whispered.

I exhaled slowly.

The tension between us was heavy, quiet, and full of old feelings. His touch was careful, deliberate, almost reverent. The more he worked on my back, the more memories came rushing; his smell, his voice, his laughter.

Maybe it was the calm. Maybe it was the way life sometimes gives you what you didn’t even know you still wanted.

All I know is that when I finally stepped out of Eden Bliss Spa that evening, my body was light, my heart was full, and the day I hadn’t planned for turned out to be one I would never forget.
