The Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture Week in Paris was a spectacular showcase of beauty and fashion, marked by standout moments from renowned designers like Schiaparelli, Dior, Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Maison Margiela. The week set a precedent for innovative and avant-garde beauty trends.

Schiaparelli’s show, led by makeup artist Pat McGrath, was a celestial homage to astrology and space, aligning perfectly with the Maison’s ethos. Models were transformed into Schiaparaliens, their faces sculpted with light to create multidimensional cheekbones and accented with gold-and-pearl shimmer on their eyelids. The most striking feature was a model whose ear was encased in crystals, a meticulous process taking over two hours, embodying the essence of couture.

At Dior, makeup director Peter Philips crafted a two-step eye look that blended intense and soft elements, complementing the house’s romantic collection. The look featured a smoky liner on the lower lash line, accented with a pale powdery shade on the eyelids for a touch of brightness, and completed with structured eyebrows and a luminous complexion.

Chanel, under the creative direction of Virginie Viard, revisited Coco Chanel’s love for ribbons with a balletcore-inspired show. Models sported black bows in their coiffed hairstyles, paired with feathered brows and flushed cheeks for a ballerina aesthetic, minus the expected doll-like blush.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s show, featuring guest couturier Simone Rocha, presented a folkloric fairytale with beauty looks to match. Makeup artist Thomas De Kluyver adorned models with baroque jewels on their lips, eyes, and brows, complementing Rocha’s romanticized designs.

Closing the week, Maison Margiela’s collection by John Galliano was a fusion of fantasy, emotion, and memory. Makeup artist Pat McGrath created porcelain doll-like makeup to match the Marie Antoinette-esque vibe of the show, with peach-toned blush, blue eyeshadows, pin-thin eyebrows, and heart-shaped lipstick.

Each designer brought a unique vision to the beauty aspect of their collections, making Paris Fashion Week SS24 a memorable event for fashion and beauty enthusiasts alike.
